Nordic History

On this page, you can find links to my reviews of books set in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. I haven’t read enough books set in any of these countries yet to make a whole page for each worthwhile, so they are grouped together here for now.

Norway

Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset

This classic novel set in 14th century Norway was originally published in the 1920s as three separate books, but is now often found in one volume. I read an English translation by Tiina Nunnally which I found very accessible and readable. Kristin’s story is very sad and bleak, but the book is beautifully written with some wonderful descriptions of life in medieval Norway.
