It’s September, which means it’s time for one of my favourite reading events of the year – R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril. R.I.P. is hosted by Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings and is now in its eleventh year!
As always, the idea of R.I.P. is to read books from one or more of the following categories during the months of September and October:
Mystery
Suspense
Thriller
Gothic
Horror
Dark Fantasy
There are different levels of participation to choose from and I am signing up for Peril the First:
Read four books, of any length, from the very broad categories earlier defined as perilous. They could all be by the same author, a series of books, a random mix of classic and contemporary or whatever you like.
Here are some of the books I currently have on either my shelf or my Kindle which I could choose from for this event:

I certainly don’t expect to read all of these, but it’s nice to have a good choice. I could also end up reading books which are not on my list, if I come across other suitable R.I.P. reads as the weeks go by!

She Reads Novels 
Ooooh, read The Strangler Vine! (MJ Carter is an alumnus of my college at university, so I’m a little invested 🙂 )
The Strangler Vine was recommended to me by someone else recently too, so I’m definitely planning to read it. 🙂
That may have been me – excellent book, and moreover the first in a series – the second, ‘The Infidel Stain’, is now out.

That looks like a great list. Some solid classics! I’m looking forward to reading at least one more of N.K. Jemisin’s dark fantasy novels and perhaps another of Nnedi Okorafor’s as well. This is the earliest Ive started reading for the event, I think, so I’m excited. Enjoy your stack!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE your list!!!! I’m one behind on the Flavia de Luce books, but I do have it by audio and will hopefully get to it for RIP this time. I’ve checked the Milne book out of the library before, but ended up taking it back unread, as often happens, because my desires are always much bigger than the time I actually have to devote to reading.

Thanks for hosting again, Carl. 🙂 The Flavia book was on my list last year but I didn’t have time for it, so I really want to read it this year.
I haven’t signed up yet, but I might do so – I’m sort of unofficially participating with the readalong of Something Wicked This Way Comes, plus I plan to review The Evil Wizard Smallbone and maybe read The Witches of Eastwick for Reading New England. I was meaning to read Margery Allingham for last year’s RIP too, but didn’t get around to it. Maybe this year? Enjoy your RIP reads!
