I’ve seen this meme appearing on a lot of other book blogs recently and I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist joining in with it myself! It originated at Fictionophile’s blog, who posted the following rules:
1. Spell out your blog’s name.
2. Find a book from your TBR that begins with each letter.
3. Have fun!
Luckily, my blog doesn’t have a very long name and as I use Goodreads to keep track of my TBR, I found it easy enough to choose a book for each letter.
Shadows on the Rock by Willa Cather
High Rising by Angela Thirkell
Elijah’s Mermaid by Essie Fox
Red Adam’s Lady by Grace Ingram
Elizabeth and Her German Garden by Elizabeth von Arnim
Angels and Insects by AS Byatt
Dark Angel by Sally Beauman
Saraband for Two Sisters by Philippa Carr
Next of Kin by John Boyne
Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper
Viper Wine by Hermione Eyre
Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin
Lady in Waiting by Rosemary Sutcliff
Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant

Have you read any of these books?
Helen, I’m afraid I haven’t any of these but I must just what a lovely collection of covers – I hope that signifies good things to come from inside the pages. 😀
Yes, I hope so too! I particularly love the cover of Elizabeth and Her German Garden. 🙂
Yes, I particularly love the cover for that one and Elijah’s Mermaid. 🙂
You are right, who can resist those memes?! 😉 Clever arrangement! I know only of Pushkin’s Oneguin. I haven’t read it though. I only read by him The Captain’s Daughter. I read it in my teens; liked it a great deal. I agree with Jessica that the covers are lovely. 🙂
I think there are a lot of lovely covers around at the moment. I’ve never read anything by Pushkin and I’m not sure that Eugene Onegin will be my kind of book, but I do want to give it a try!
Nice choices. My list: http://100greatestnovelsofalltimequest.blogspot.com/2018/05/my-blogs-name-in-books.html
Thanks! I’ll come across and have a look at your list. 🙂
Just two, Helen: ‘Angels and Insects’ (which I read in the last year or two) and ‘The Dark is Rising’ (which I read in the decade it came out, but which I’m looking forward to reading again soon). A couple of your other titles appeal, but I’ve already far too much waiting in the wings! 🙂
I’m looking forward to reading Over Sea, Under Stone now that this meme has reminded me of it! I’ve been meaning to start The Dark is Rising series for years.
Shadows on the Rocks is fabulous. High Rising, light 30s fun, Elizabeth and her German Garden is excellent too. Happy reading.
Thank you – I’m looking forward to reading all three of those books. 🙂
Nice list! The only one I am familiar with is Eugene Onegin. I haven’t read it though, which is why I have it down on my list which I will have up next week
I’ll look out for your list next week. I’m looking forward to reading Eugene Onegin, but I’m nervous about it too as it’s not my usual sort of read!
This was a fun meme to do wasn’t it? I’ve not read any of the books you’ve listed, but Next of Kin looks interesting.
Yes, it’s simple but fun! I’ve enjoyed most of the other John Boyne books I’ve read, so I’m hoping Next of Kin will be another good one.
I’ve read High Rising, very entertaining, although I thought it began slowly. I’ve also read Over Sea, Under Stone and the other books in Susan Cooper’s series, The Dark is Rising, fantastic books!
High Rising will be my first Angela Thirkell book, so I’m pleased to hear you thought it was entertaining. I’ve wanted to read the Susan Cooper series for a long time and can’t wait to get started with Over Sea, Under Stone!
Only the Angela Thirkell one, I find them gentle reads. Just had an attempt at my blog name and I didn’t realise I had so many books starting The!! So might have to pass on this meme.
Well, I’ve seen some bloggers ignoring the word ‘The’ and just starting with the second word of the title, so I think you could still take part if you wanted to. I’m looking forward to reading High Rising as I’ve never read anything by Angela Thirkell before.
Love all the ones I’ve read – Shadows on the Rock, High Rising, Dark Is rising, and Elizabeth and Her German Garden. I’m in the middle of Eugene Onegin – the James Falen translation, which I can recommend. Great TBR!
I’m glad you loved all of those books – I’m looking forward to reading them. Thanks for the advice on Eugene Onegin. I usually struggle with narrative poems, so I need a good, readable translation.
It’s excellent – I can’t judge its fidelity to Russian, but just as English poetry it’s very enjoyable.
I’m going to join in with this one too, when I can get organised. I’ve only read the von Arnim and the two Thirkells from your list. I’m definitely interested in your last three though.
I’ll look out for your post, if you decide to have a go at this. The last three books have been on my TBR for ages – I’ll have to read them soon!
I have read three of the authors though different books; I have read The Dark is Rising and mean to read the rest of that series. Looking at the books bloggers have put up for this meme is a little like looking into secret stashes!
I love seeing what everyone else has on their TBR! I can’t wait to start reading The Dark is Rising.
It’s a fun meme, isn’t it 🙂 I started High Rising and got distracted and really must return to it; a fund series I think. You have a number of authors I know and have read but I’ve not read any of these particular books. I am enjoying seeing all these beautiful covers!
Yes, I enjoyed taking part in this meme and reminding myself of all the books I still haven’t read! I’ve never read anything by Angela Thirkell – I’m hoping I’ll like High Rising enough to want to read the rest of the series.
