This week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is “Books on My Spring 2025 To-Read List”.
I have a lot more than ten books I’m hoping to read this spring, but here’s a selection of them:

1. That Dark Spring by Susannah Stapleton – I haven’t read Susannah Stapleton’s previous non-fiction book, but her new one, about a true crime in 1920s Provence, sounds fascinating.
2. The Versailles Formula by Nancy Bilyeau – I was very excited to see the next book in the Genevieve Planché series on NetGalley last week.
3. Traitor’s Legacy by SJ Parris – The first in a new series of historical thrillers set in Elizabethan England.
4. Written on the Dark by Guy Gavriel Kay – A new book by GGK is always something I look forward to. This one is set in a world based on medieval France.
5. The Mourning Necklace by Kate Foster – I enjoyed Kate Foster’s last novel, The King’s Witches, so I’m hoping this one will be just as good.
6. The Elopement by Gill Hornby – A sequel to Hornby’s Godmersham Park, about Jane Austen’s niece, Fanny Knight.
7. Linden Rise by Richmal Crompton – When I was looking for books published in 1952 to read for the upcoming 1952 Club, I remembered I had this one on my Kindle. Not sure what else I’ll read yet.
8. White Corridor by Christopher Fowler – My recent Six Degrees of Separation post reminded me about the Bryant and May series. I enjoyed the first four books and this is the fifth.
9. The Eagle and the Hart by Helen Castor – Another non-fiction book, this time about the relationship between Richard II and Henry IV. I’ve already started it, but it’s so long I think it will take me the rest of the spring to finish it.
10. The End of the Affair by Graham Greene – One of the final few books on my Classics Club list. It will also be the first book I’ve read by Graham Greene.

I’m really looking forward to Traitor’s Legacy and the Elopement. My review of Godmersham Park is still one of my most viewed posts which seems to show that the book is still popular. After loving The Lions of Al-Rassan last month, I’m definitely interested in reading Written on the Dark. Hope that you enjoy all of these
Thanks – I hope we both enjoy Traitor’s Legacy and The Elopement. I loved The Lions of Al-Rassan too. I haven’t been as impressed by Kay’s more recent books, but I’m still looking forward to reading his new one.
I still haven’t given GGK a try, despite having copies of his early trilogy and a recent-ish novel (not this one) waiting. But I’d be curious about the Richmal Crompton, having neither tried nor even come across any of her adult work.
I hope you’re able to try GGK soon. His early trilogy (at least what I’ve read of it so far) is very different from his more recent books, but I think both are excellent. I’ve read a few of Richmal Crompton’s other adult books and enjoyed them – even in her adult work she writes child characters very well, as you would expect.
I don’t have any specific book plans for now except to read the next book for ReadingAusten. I have three books to read to finish A Century of Books. I’m way behind on my other projects because almost all the books I read between October and now (except I got interrupted by Nonfiction November and Novellas in November) were for that project. And I would like to get back to my now huge stacks of books that aren’t for any project but just there because I thought they looked interesting. I haven’t touched those stacks for months.
I’m impressed that you’ve nearly finished your Century of Books! I’ve never tried it but I think I would need to do it over at least two years.
I have four really fat books to read, I think. But I really worked hard on it the last few months, to the neglect of the other reading I usually do.
I take that back, a little. I am now reading my second book for the 1952 Club and hope to squeeze in a third.
I liked The End of the Affair; it’s one of my favorite Graham Greene novels. And I think That Dark Spring sounds intriguing. Happy reading these! 😀

I hope you enjoy all of these. It looks like a lovely selection of books. I’ll have to look the first one up. I haven’t tried non fiction before but I have my eye on another 2025 true crime release so apparently those call to me 😂 I’m intrigued by Traitors Legacy & Mourning Necklace. I also kind of have my eye on Written On The Dark. It only had a vague blurb when I last looked but I’ve heard of the author often enough to be intrigued.I really want to get Priory Of The Orange Tree read this spring. As to historical fiction maybe The Second Duchess by Elizabeth Loupas as I’ve had a copy on my shelves for years now.
Thanks! I’m glad you’re interested in some of these too. Guy Gavriel Kay is usually great, although I prefer his earlier books that had stronger fantasy elements in them – my favourite is Tigana. I’m looking forward to reading his new one anyway. And I loved The Second Duchess! I have another Elizabeth Loupas book, The Flower Reader, on my shelf which I’ve been meaning to read for years.
Ooh I’ll have to look that one up. I do love my fantasy details 😍 yay I’m glad to hear you loved that one. I hope you end up enjoying The Flower Reader too whenever you get to it. That’s the one that first caught my eye actually but then I found The Second Duchess secondhand first 😂 I’m pretty sure an author recommendation led me to it but it was so long ago that I truly can’t remember whose.
