New book arrivals

As a change from all the book reviews I’ve been posting recently I thought I’d share with you some of the new books I’ve acquired in the last couple of weeks.

Touch by Alexi Zentner – I’ve already finished reading this novel about a Canadian gold mining town and I would highly recommend it – it’s beautifully written with some haunting imagery and elements of magical realism.

Here Be Dragons by Sharon Penman – I bought this secondhand copy for myself because I loved The Sunne in Splendour and want to try another of Penman’s books. This one is set in 13th century Wales.

The Report by Jessica Francis Kane – I’ve seen so many positive reviews of this book recently and am interested in learning more about the Bethnal Green tube disaster.

The Map of Time by Felix Palma – This book is set in Victorian London and features characters such as H.G. Wells, Jack the Ripper and Bram Stoker. This really sounds like something I should love, so I hope it lives up to my expectations.

Gillespie and I by Jane Harris – I was delighted to win a copy of this book from LibraryThing Early Reviewers. I haven’t heard much about it but it looks and sounds wonderful.

Have you read any of these?

Yes, I have read Here Be Dragons, and also Sunne in Splendour, I enjoyed both
of these enormously… love the era, geographics, and the people involved.

and not the least the writing… Highly recommended , but that is what I enjoy.

Historical fiction is the genre I enjoy the most too. I was very impressed by The Sunne in Splendour. It was probably my favourite book that I read last year and I can’t wait to start Here Be Dragons.

I’ve just been reading some interesting reviews of ‘Gillespie and I’ and thinking I ought to get hold of a copy, so I’ll be interested in what you have to say about it. And I definitely ought to read ‘Here Be Dragons’ . I live at the furthest reach of our local council’s range and given the lack of attention they seem to pay us I’m fairly sure that if you looked at their map of their region where I live would be marked ‘here be dragons’!

Sounds like Here Be Dragons would be perfect for you, Annie! 🙂

I’m looking forward to Gillespie and I, though I probably won’t be able to start it for another week or two as I have some other books to finish first.

I have seen some good reviews about Gillespie and I and now I want to read it! I also have The Report as well to read, as I picked up the interest on other blogs.

The Map of Time looks like a real book to get your teeth in to. I missed it on last months Amazon Vine, perhaps this month?

    Look forward to the reviews.

What a wonderful selection of books. I absolutely loved Here Be Dragons years and The Report quite recently.

I also received Gillespie and I on Librarything, and your other two books are on my wishlist.

I’m glad to hear you loved Here Be Dragons. I’m really looking forward to reading it. And I remember seeing your review of The Report!
