This week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is “Books with My Favourite Colour on the Cover”.
I’ve always loved green so here are ten books I’ve read and enjoyed with green on the cover:
1. The Village of Eight Graves by Seishi Yokomizo – A Japanese classic crime novel first published in 1950 and available in a new English translation by Bryan Karetnyk.
2. A Corruption of Blood by Ambrose Parry – The third book in one of my favourite historical mysteries series, set in the medical world of 19th century Edinburgh.
3. The Case of the Gilded Fly by Edmund Crispin – A Gervase Fen mystery with a theatrical theme. I’ve only read two books in the series so far and must read more!
4. That Lady by Kate O’Brien – The first of two Virago Modern Classics on my list, with those famous green covers. This one is about Ana de Mendoza, Princess of Eboli and Duchess of Pastrana.
5. Hungry Hill by Daphne du Maurier – This family saga set in Ireland is a particularly bleak du Maurier novel and not a favourite, but I did still like it.
6. Anne Boleyn: A King’s Obsession by Alison Weir – Part of Weir’s Six Tudor Queens series, retelling the stories of the six wives of Henry VIII.
7. The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith – The first in McCall Smith’s popular detective series set in Botswana and still the only one I’ve read!
8. Troy Chimneys by Margaret Kennedy – Another VMC book. I loved this one, set in Regency England and telling the story of a man with two very different sides to his character.
9. The Deadly Truth by Helen McCloy – A 1941 mystery featuring the New York psychiatrist Dr Basil Willing. McCloy’s books seem to have gone back out of print again, so I’m glad I managed to read some of them while they were available!
10. Human Croquet by Kate Atkinson – This early Atkinson novel is an unusual, imaginative read that plays with the concept of time in some fascinating ways.

Have you read any of these? Are there any other books you’ve enjoyed with green covers?

I have never heard of any off these books.
My TTT: https://laurieisreading.com/2024/07/02/top-ten-tuesday-mid-year-2024-reading-goals-check-in/
They are all good books, if you ever come across them!
Yay green! It is my favorite color as well!
You have good taste! 🙂
These covers grouped by colour look so good!
Yes, I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone’s posts today!
Some great ones there. I love the Ambrose Parry books 💚
Yes, it’s a great series!
I’ve read A Corruption of Blood and the Anne Boleyn book. I have The Case of the Gilded Fly but haven’t read it yet and the cover on my copy isn’t green. But that’s all.
The cover of A Room Made of Leaves by Kate Grenville has lots of green leaves on its cover – I enjoyed that book.
I have A Room Made of Leaves on the TBR but I decided to stick to books I’ve actually read and reviewed. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Is that a new release cover for No 1 Ladies Detective Agency? I’ve never seen that cover before. I’m a big fan of the series.
It’s the UK Kindle cover, but I’m not sure if it’s still a current one as I read it in 2017. I must read more of that series soon!
I’ve read The Case of the Gilded Fly, That Lady, Hungry Hill, The #1 Ladies Detective Agency, Troy Chimneys, and Human Croquet, although several of those did not have these same covers when I read them. Trust by Hernan Diaz has a nice green cover, as does Westwood by Stella Gibbons, The Green Road by Anne Enright (edging toward teal), Tom Lake by Ann Patchett, and Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge. These are just green-covered books I’ve shown in reviews this year.
I nearly included Tom Lake, but had to stop at ten. I haven’t read any of the others you mentioned.
It has a beautiful cover, though.
Green is gorgeous!
I’m glad you agree!
Only the Gervase Fen have I read – twice in fact, because I forgot to review it the first time round! A clever little whodunit with sketches plans, college settings, and Fen doing his best to break down the fourth wall. 🙂
Yes, it’s a very clever novel, although I preferred the other Gervase Fen mystery I read, The Moving Toyshop, which I thought was even more imaginative and unusual!
Yes, I too preferred The Moving Toyshop – and that reminds me, I’ve a collection of short cases involving Gervase Fen ready for when I’m in the mood for a bit of light diversion!
Green can be such a powerful color! Great job.

Thanks Pam!
Once a Queen by Sarah Arthur has a great green cover! My TTT
I haven’t heard of that book but I’ve just looked it up and it sounds great and does have a lovely cover!
Green is my favorite color. I wear it a lot because I love it so much 🙂 These are some pretty green covers. Nice picks.
Happy TTT!

Yes, I like wearing green too. Thanks for commenting!
I only almost read the woman best detective, the one set in South Africa, but I don’t know the other ones. If I participated green is also my favorite color.
It’s good to see that so many of us like green!
Green is definitely one of my favourite colours (or turquoise? purple? blue? I’m a bit indecisive) but for some reason I don’t really love it on book covers. I do like the dark green Viragos, though.
I love turquoise as well, but I think I would have struggled to find ten turquoise book covers.
Haven’t read any of them, but I do love Daphne DuMaurier so I’m sure I’ll get to Hungry Hill at some point. It doesn’t sound like I need to rush though!
I did blue, but I did it a bit differently: https://franlaniado.wordpress.com/2024/07/02/top-ten-tuesday-books-that-feel-blue/
Hungry Hill is definitely worth reading, but not one of her better books.
Great covers! I especially love that Kate Atkinson one. 😀
Yes, I love that cover too and I really enjoyed the book!
What a lovely array of green book covers. The only one I have read is Anne Boleyn: A King’s Obsession by Alison Weir, as you probably remember I loved it and almost all the series 😊
Blessings, Jessica 💌
I enjoyed Anne Boleyn: A King’s Obsession as well. I think it was one of my favourites in the series, along with the Katherine Parr book.
And me 😊
