Number 1
Last week I decided to take part in the sixth Classics Club Spin. The rules were simple – list twenty books from your Classics Club list, number them 1 to 20, and the number announced today (Monday) represents the book you have to read before 7th July 2014.
The number that has been selected is 1, which means the book I’ll be reading is:
The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy
I’m happy with this. There were some other titles on my list that I would have preferred, but I do love Thomas Hardy and I haven’t read any of his books for a while.
If you participated in the spin too, were you pleased with your result?

I love The Mayor of Casterbridge, I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks. I’m pleased to hear that you love it!
I got The Canterbury Tales. The only Thomas Hardy work I’ve read is Tess of the d’Urbervilles. I look forward to reading your review for The Mayor of Casterbridge.
I loved Tess of the d’Urbervilles and hope I’ll love this one too. Good luck with The Canterbury Tales!
Helen I’m pleased to hear you got a book your happy with. I got a book I was neither excited for or dreading 🙂
I’m glad you didn’t get a book you were dreading!
The first chapters of that book make me soooo angry. Nothing can be too bad for a man who behaves as the hero does in that novel.
I’m about to start reading so I’ll soon find out if I agree with you.
Oh you are in for a treat. It’s a wonderful novel.
I’m pleased to hear that! I can’t wait to start it.
I love The Mayor of Casterbridge and Hardy in general. Hope you enjoys it! I have Sense and Sensibility for my spin read so I’m excited.
I’m glad you got a book you’re excited about. Sense and Sensibility is not one of my favourite Austen novels but I did enjoy it.
Thank you, I am pleased with my spin this time.
I enjoyed Mayor of Casterbridge and I say that as someone who normally doesn’t like Hardy. So I think you’ll love it!
I got Lord of the Flies and am excited to try it.
I hope you enjoy Lord of the Flies. I read it years ago, though I can’t remember much about it.
I’ve heard so many good things about The Mayor of Casterbridge. I hope you love it!
I spun A High Wind in Jamaica and am quite thrilled. I’ve wanted to read it for a long while now.
I love Hardy so I’m very happy with my result. A High Wind in Jamaica sounds wonderful!
Hardy is still on my “to-read” list. I’ll look forward to hearing more about this one.
I hope you decide to try Hardy one day, Lisa. He’s one of my favourite Victorian authors.
Sounds like a great spin; haven’t read this particular Hardy, but I’ve loved the Hardy novels that I have read. Hope you enjoy it.
I’ve loved all the other Hardy novels I’ve read too, so I have high hopes for this one!
One of my favourite authors and one of my favourite of his books. I do hope that you will love it too
I hope this will turn out to be one of my favourites too.
I read this book at school – and I’ve loved it ever since! But then Hardy is one of my favourite authors. My book is Mansfield Park – a book I thought I’d read, but I haven’t, so I’m looking forward to a treat.
I still have about half of Hardy’s novels left to read but based on the ones I’ve read he’s one of my favourite authors too. I’m looking forward to starting this one.
I loved this book when I read it in college – so long ago! Hope you do, too.
I’m nearly halfway through now and I think it could be about to become one of my favourite Hardy novels!
